It seems everyone’s talking about ‘mindfulness’ these days. But what exactly does it mean? How can it help?

Cast your mind back to last week. What do you remember? It’s a bit blurry, right? As human beings there is a seemingly large amount of pressure on us to be able to multi-task. If we are not checking our emails whilst cooking the dinner and scrolling through instagram we are wasting ‘valuable time’. How luxurious would it feel if we could just appreciate the present moment. Mindfulness is just that. It gives us permission to surrender to the here and now. Mindfulness is about being more aware of yourself, others and the world around you – in each moment.

Some of you may be thinking this is pretty hard to do when you have a million things to do each day. But that’s where mindfulness can be so great; it’s flexible. You don’t need any fancy equipment, just yourself and five minutes without any distraction.

There are also many other ways this little gem can benefit your life, including helping with insomnia, anxiety, depression and negative thoughts.

So how does it work?

Our friends at Value Your Mind have compiled six easy steps to help you practice daily mindfulness. All of which are free, easy to do and can help keep those stress levels at bay.

If you are struggling with the self-discipline of finding ‘time for yourself’ then Headspace have developed a fantastic app that will help guide you through the basics. It’s simple and very easy to use.

Why not give it a try this month! Pave the way for a happier, healthier and more productive YOU.
