Breaking Foundations

Take your first step into the world of Breakin’, the original dance style of Hip Hop culture. This exciting one-day intensive is designed for complete beginners, as well as dancers who want to sharpen their foundations and refine their technique.

Always wanted to try breaking? Returning to the style? Or simply looking to strengthen your understanding of the basics? This immersive masterclass will introduce you to the essential skills, techniques, history and culture behind one of the world’s most dynamic dance forms.

Led by Jamaal O’Driscoll, the intensive explores the core foundations of Breakin’, including top rock, footwork, freezes, transitions, rhythm, musicality and movement quality. Alongside expert guidance and hands-on coaching, you’ll build confidence, coordination and body awareness. You’ll also develop the fundamental techniques that underpin the dance.

Throughout the day, you’ll have time to practise, experiment and put your learning into action. Whether you’re taking your first steps into Breakin’, refreshing your skills or don’t have time to commit to weekly classes, this focused and practical intensive offers an inspiring introduction to the style.

By the end of the day, you’ll leave with the knowledge, confidence and tools to keep developing in your own time.

To support your learning beyond the workshop, every participant will also receive a Breakin’ Fundamentals Workbook. It includes the vocabulary, techniques and key concepts covered throughout the day. You can use it to revisit what you’ve learned, reinforce your understanding and continue building your skills long after the masterclass has finished.

Most importantly, the masterclass takes place in a supportive and motivating environment. It’s a chance to challenge yourself, develop your movement and deepen your connection to the culture of Breakin’.

No previous experience is required. Just bring comfortable clothing, trainers, a water bottle and a willingness to learn.
