In this first session, we will explore the art of ‘copywriting’ and give insights into how to write clear, informative, and exciting copy about your work for different purposes.

in This Session, we Will:
- Define the term ‘copy ‘
- Identify the difference between copy writing in Journalism and copywriting in Marketing/Advertising
- Contextualise the crossover present in the arts (dance/theatre) community
- Teach participants how copy is written – for different purposes – by analysing:
- Marketing packs
- E-flyers
- Social media ads
- Press Releases
- Enable participants to write copy with a simple formula and table

Isaac Ouro-Gnao
Isaac Ouro-Gnao is a freelancer who writes and sub-edits essays, reviews, and features on dance theatre independently, for e-journals, and online magazines.
As a journalist, he has worked as an online editor, written, and delivered Digital Marketing and Journalism courses, and founded the now archived Gender in Dance – an investigative blog formed in 2015 to examine gender inequality in the dance industry.
He has since built experience in social media and marketing, copywriting, and researching.
Ian Abbott
Ian is an independent producer, writer and consultant who specialises in producing, strategic development & fundraising in the creative & cultural industries in the UK and Asia.
He has been a trustee, advisor, lead and held senior roles with companies including 2Faced Dance Company, Creative Dundee and Neon Dance.
He is the founder of the Hip Hop Dance Almanac, has worked with Artists 4 Artists and co-leads Producing Heads with Lee Griffiths; he writes regularly about Hip Hop dance, theatre and institutional power whilst his creative output spans radio broadcasting, script writing, GIF reviews, film making, performance and book making.
Hannah Hutchings-Georgiou
Hannah is a writer and founding editor-in-chief of Lucy Writers, an online platform that seeks to uplight the creative and critical voices of womxn writers.
She has written for online journals, blogs and magazines on the arts, and is currently planning a proposal for a creative non-fiction book about mother-daughter artistic collaborations.
Hannah is completing a PHD is English Literature at UCL, where she teaches on their BA English programme, and is an Associate of Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge.
Valerie Ebuwa
Valerie Ebuwa is a freelance dance artist, activist, writer and model based in London. She started her training at Lewisham College before obtaining a BA HONS degree from London Contemporary Dance School. Among others, she has recently worked with; Vincent Dance Theatre, Clod Ensemble, Eddie Peake, Protein Dance and Holly Blakey.
As a maker, she has choreographed and created Body Data, CTRL+V, ValUE and Down Bad/ How do you wanna go out?. As well as her blog and casual work for The Stage Magazine, Valerie writes for I am Hip Hop Magazine; a printed and online publication championing Hip Hop culture. Her work has been featured in Crack Magazine and i-D.
